1914 Jugendstil Schuetzenfest Plate, Loder-Eyer, Thun – Ryffli with Crossbow and Bear
This wonderful plate is decorated with the figure from the famous Bern Ryffli Fountain ((Ryfflibrunnen, 1545). It shows the sharpshooter Ryffli (Der Schütze Ryffli), a Swiss founding father, with a crossbow over his shoulder, a sword in one hand and a bear at his feet.
The plate commemorates a shooting festival or Schützenfest held in Bern in 1914, and would most likely have been a prize awarded to one of the best marksmen at the event.
Thuner Majolika, signed with the mark of K. Loder-Eyer on the reverse.
