A Droitte – Antique Engraving of an 18th Century Soldier in Red Uniform
Elegant beautifully hand colored copperplate engraving of a soldier in a red uniform standing at attention and carrying a rifle with a bayonette. We believe it may represent one of the 100 Suisses, the Swiss guards who protected French royalty. The text reads “A Droitte” and it has the plate number 22. There is a signature line lower left which we are unable to make out, but we can see the date 1756.
