Ecole de Cuzco – School of Cuzco Paintings
The Cuzco School
Colonial Era antique paintings on wood from the “Ecole de Cuzco” in Peru.
The Cuzco school is the term used to describe the marvelous paintings produced by Incan artists taught by the Spanish in western art techniques and working in Cuzco between the 16th to the 19th century. The images often integrate ex voto style narratives of divine mercy or depict the relationship between the colonial authorities and their subjects.
