Henry Crowther: Portrait of Pekingese Dog Kwei Li of Inglenook (1922)
The English dog and artist and equestrian Henry Crowther (1905-1939) traveled across the U.K. visiting kennels and painting portraits of the important show dogs of the day. He was the first first artist to attend Crufts Dog Show in order to obtain commissions. Crowther was known for capturing an accurate likeness of the pedigreed dogs he painted, and often added the dogs names within the painting itself, as is the case with this work, which shows a Pekingese named “Kwei-li of Inglenoonk.
